Bishop Patrick Neary, joined by the priests of the diocese, will gather at the Cathedral to celebrate the Chrism Mass. This Mass manifests the unity of the priests with their bishop. Here the bishop blesses three oils which will be used in the administration of the sacraments throughout the diocese for the year. The Chrism Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 10, at 7:00 pm at St. Mary’s Cathedral. All are welcome.

Tenebrae - A Tradition at St. Mary’s Cathedral
Everyone is welcome at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud on Good Friday evening, April 18, at 8:00 pm for Tenebrae, which is Latin for shadows or darkness. At this event, participants will experience the gradual extinction of all lights in the church, symbolizing the temporary triumph of the prince of darkness over the Light of the World, and loud noises created at the end of the service by the assembly and ministers, suggesting the earthquake described in the Passion Narratives.

This free event will begin with Mass in the Cathedral at 4:00 pm. The fun begins on the grounds of St. Mary’s Cathedral from 5:00 - 10:00 pm. Live entertainment and other family friendly events include bingo, children’s game, inflatables, silent auction and of course, lots of delicious food and beer garden.

Lenten Taizé Evening Prayer at St. Mary’s Cathedral
St. Mary’s Cathedral will host a Lenten Taizé Evening Prayer service on Friday, March 14, at 7:00 pm. Taizé is a small village in eastern France, the home of an ecumenical community of monks, both Catholic and Protestant, whose daily prayer is the center of their community life. Pilgrims and visitors from all over the world visit Taizé for reflection and prayer.
Our service will feature spoken and sung prayer and candle lighting, with simple songs that are repeated over and over to become a prayerful meditation. This service is family friendly and will last about 45 minutes. Come for Stations of the Cross at 5:30, stay for Soup Supper at 6:00, and join the community for Taizé evening prayer at 7:00.

Then all are invited to St. Augustine on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 3:00 pm to wrap the gifts and prepare the food baskets for distribution.

Elder members and friends of All Called to Christ ACC are invited to a Mass for Elders on Thursday, December 5, at 10:00 am at Holy Spirit Church. There will be an opportunity for reconciliation from 9:15 - 9:45 am and following Mass. Anointing of the Sick will also be available. Coffee and rolls will be served after Mass.

St. Mary’s Cathedral will celebrate two Masses on Ash Wednesday in the upper church: 7:00 am and 12:05 pm. Ashes will be distributed at both Masses.

St. Mary’s Choir Performs Via Crucis
St. Mary’s Cathedral is pleased to announce the performance of “Via Crucis,” a choral and organ work by Franz Liszt. This special Stations of the Cross will be held on Friday, March 31, at 7:00 pm. All are welcome in the upper church of St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud for this free event.
The Blessing of the Throats is a sacramental of the Roman Catholic Church, ordinarily celebrated on February 3, the feast day of Saint Blaise of Sebaste (modern Sivas, Turkey). Throats will also be blessed after the 5:00 pm Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
Blessing of Candles on the Feast of the Presentation On Thursday, February 2, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord. This event recalls Jesus’ presentation in the Temple in Jerusalem forty days after his birth by his parents in obedience to the Law of Moses. It is customary on this day to bless candles, recalling Simeon’s reference to the infant Jesus as the “light for revelation to the Gentiles” (Luke 2:32). Candles will be blessed at the 12:05 pm Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral. You are most welcome to bring your own candles to Mass to be blessed. Candles will also be available for a free will offering.
